Wedding Planner vs. Wedding Coordinator

Hello all! I often times find the need to talk to my potential brides about the difference between a wedding planner and a wedding coordinator.

A wedding planner is someone who is fully involved with the wedding planning from day one! They attend all of your vendor meetings and help plan all the small details. Typically planners cost more because they are involved for a longer amount of time as well as do a lot of the legwork for the bride.

A wedding coordinator is not necessarily involved with all the planning. Their primary job is to make sure that your event runs smoothly. This is what we are at Day of Divas....kind of like the wedding producers! We get involved about 2 months prior to your wedding day, finalize all of your details, confirm all of our vendors, and "produce" your entire wedding day! We are especially beneficial for DIY and budget conscious brides!

Catering Managers vs. Wedding Coordinators

Many brides aski us here at Day of Divas..."What's the difference between you and the coordinator at my venue?" As this question is importnat, we feel the more important thing is that YOU the bride has someone there that will do the things you want them to do no matter who they are or their position. So, we often ask our brides to take our day-of package description to their "coordinator" at their venue and see if that person is willing to perform the services that we offer. 9 times out 10 they will not and this is because they are a catering manager and NOT a wedding coordinator. Most catering managers WILL NOT do the following: bustle your gown, confirm and stay in contact with your other vendors, keep you on schedule prior to the reception, oversee floral set-up, etc. and most of all be by your side with an assistant your entire wedding day! So our advice to you- be honest with your venue coordinator and ask them exactly what they will and will not do the day of your wedding!

**Pictures to come soon** Our second wedding of 2009 was PERFECTO! Great venue, great vendors, great weather, and the perfect intimate wedding! Kali, Dave and 40 of their closest friends and family joined together on February 22nd at the Sundy House in Delray Beach for the most beautiful wedding! It was the smallest wedding that DDE has planned, but probably the most memorable. EVERY guest was from out-of-town so everyone was on a vacation to south Florida and so excited to see Kali and Dave be married. I would like to give a special thanks to our vendors-

Simonton-Freeman Wedding

DDE worked their first wedding of 2009 last night at the residence of Elizabeth Simonton and Louis Freeman! What a spectacular event! Hosting a wedding inside the home of the actual bride and groom was a first for DDE and it will be a great memory for the couple and for my staff.

Guests enjoyed cocktails on the first floor of the residence, indoors and outdoors around the pool area, in the cool, crisp Miami night air! Later guests made their way upstairs to enjoy their 5-course meal provided by Barton G. We transformed each bedroom into dining areas for the guests, creating a romantic ambiance with low lighting and candelabras adorned with roses and hydrangeas! Pictures to come soon!

My Vacation!

Hi All! So, the blog has not been updated the last few days because I took a short vacation. I will be returning home to Florida tomorrow to a very busy week! DDE has a wedding on Saturday, my birthday is Sunday :), and the next weekend Iwill be meeting with a current bride and groom to go over their "first dance"!

Wedding Favors!

So many of brides ask me about wedding favors...here are just a few inexpensive ideas!

Personalized CD: Creating a CD for your guests is great and an inexpensive idea. I still have a CD from a wedding I went to 7 years ago! You can add a great engagement photo for the cover and add a list of the songs and why they mean something to you. This favor is inexpensive enough that you could give each guest one or save money by giving one per couple!

Make a Donation- Making a donation on behalf of each of your wedding guests is very popular now. If you chose this option be sure to put a card on each table, or each place setting describing what you did on their behalf. You can also add a story if the charity has personal meaning for you.

Plant a Tree- Everyone is eco-conscious these days, so what better way to help the environment then supplying each guest with seeds to plant their own tree.

Bride Wars- Opens January 9th

Opening January 9th is yet another wedding movie guaranteed to be hysterial. Bride Wars features Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway. The two are best friends, that is until a clerical error mistakenly has them getting married on the same day, in the same venue. When they are forced to decide who will change their plans, the gloves come off and the bridezillas go to war! I plan to see the movie when it opens and will surely blog about my thoughts!

So...my father-in-law sent me a wonderful article from the NY Times last week and I finally got around to reading it this past weekend. There was interesting link to a website called Bravo Bride. This is a fabulous site! It's basically Ebay or Craigslist for brides who want to sell their wedding items or who want to buy items for their upcoming wedding! I encourage ALL brides to check it out! It's a great palce to find things you may only use once and a great place to make some money after your wedding!
